Engadget video hub, Engadget on Twitter / Facebook, other Engadgety goodness

July 9th, 2009 Compu-Blog No comments

You know, we like to keep the wheels turning here at Engadget (you’ll be seeing even more big turns in the near future), so we thought we’d take a break in the daily proceedings to direct your attention to a few items of interest. Firstly, while you’re probably aware of the Hubs (see the Palm Pre, HTC Hero, and iPhone 3GS iterations), you’ll be pleased to know that we’ve added a video landing page as well. The new hang-out spot is an easy place to casually check recent video we’ve done as well as featured picks, and we think it’s damned handsome too.

Additionally, you may have noticed we’ve been hitting a lot of feature and review content lately — if you want to read through some of the best, you can see some recent reviews here, some nice editorials / columns here, and a slew of gadget porn here.

Finally, if you didn’t already know, you can become of a fan of Engadget on Facebook, and you can follow the site (as well as editors) on Twitter. Here’s a handy list of names:

The Daily Roundup: here’s what you might’ve missed

July 9th, 2009 Compu-Blog No comments
Google announces Chrome OS, coming to netbooks second half of 2010
We can’t believe it’s actually here, but after hearing whispers of a Google OS for what seems like ages now, the company’s now gone official with its plans.
myTouch 3G hands-on (with video!)
While it’s great to see T-Mobile’s next Android phone all official and everything, there are certainly few surprises for those of us already familiar with the HTC Magic / Google Ion.
Sony Ericsson Rachael UI video leaks out, Kiki comes for the ride
Just like HTC’s layered the Sense UI over Android on the Hero, the Rachael looks to have a polished custom Sony Ericsson interface over its Android build, and we’re definitely digging the vibe.
Other news of import

Engadget goes behind the Dolby logo
With AV software and hardware alike carrying at least one Dolby logo, not to mention the presence of that same branding on big screen cinema, Dolby is truly a household name.
Sprint no longer selling Pre over the phone
We’re told the move is being made so that the carrier “can focus inventory in sales channels where customers have the best opportunity to experience Ready Now.”

HTC Hero vs. T-Mobile myTouch 3G… fight!

July 9th, 2009 Compu-Blog No comments

Two long lost siblings, at last reunited. But can there ever be unity? We don’t think so. At every turn, the HTC Hero seems to trounce the myTouch 3G — it’s really hardly a contest. The myTouch is certainly lighter, and in many ways “feels” smaller because of it, but the size differences really are negligible. They’re still both great phones, but the Hero really feels like a million bucks, while the myTouch feels a bit like a toy. Unfortunately, only one of them just went up for pre-order on T-Mobile, and it’s not the one we want to marry.

Toshiba’s TG01 stepping out in London on July 9th

July 1st, 2009 Rob No comments

It’s already out in Japan and a few select countries in Europe, now Toshiba’s skinny TG01 is hitting London on Thursday, July 9th. Presumably the invite will be met with an official UK launch of Tosh’s deftly skinned Snapdragon handset with a Windows Mobile 6.1 core. Then again, it could be a lot of tech reporters eating mini triangular sandwiches slathered with pickle spread discussing the HTC Hero for four hours. We’ll let you know next week.
